WEDNESDAY 6th JULY 2016 - MT. WASHINGTON to KEENE VALLEY

A good start to the day with a visit to a fantastic country bakery.  The smell drew us in and their choice of eats were surprisingly good.  We have a BIG day today.   On the road and the 'Beware of Moose' signs became more prevalent.   We arrived at the base of Mt. Washington (New Hampshire) and were confronted with a huge sign saying the road was steep and narrow, gravel in sections, no guard rails and if we have any fear of heights DON'T DO IT.   Well hell, we weren't going to miss the opportunity of riding to the top.

The views, as you would expect, were tremendous.  We followed Mac to the top.  We climbed to the actual summit.  Enjoyed watching the cog railways bring people from below.  They were quite lovely in design.  The day couldn't have been more perfect.  Apparently the summit has only a few clear days per year and we managed to have clear skies, warm temperatures and no wind.
We then spent the rest of the day riding west on Highway 2.  We had several short rest stops along the way until we reached the Lake Champlain Ferry at Charlotte, Vermont.  We had a short wait which was quite pleasant after all that riding.  The ferry crossing to Essex, New York State, was serene and relaxing after many hot miles on the road.
We continued on to Mac's place and following a cold drink we drove in to town to the Ausable Inn and enjoyed a magnificent meal.  Mac, if you read this, can you get me the recipe for that Spicy Mushroom soup - the best I've ever had.
